In the early morning on Saturday, May 30, volunteers from the Recovery Café community – including members of the Walking and Running Clubs and Young Professionals Board – set up a water station in the Eastlake neighborhood for the Inaugural Brooks Trailhead 10K and 15K. Recovery Café was the Brooks Trailhead charity partner and we were excited to prepare gallons of nuun electrolyte drink and water cups, and pass them out to runners as they made their way around Lake Union.
Stationed at the bottom of a hill near mile four of the 10K, the volunteers’ energy focused on cheering for the runners as they raced up the hill towards the finish line. The most exciting moment was when friends of the Café and the Running Clubs zipped past the table.
Upon completing the 10K route, the Running Club members proudly accepted Finisher Medals. It highlighted their hard work since January and geared them up for their next challenge! We are thankful for Brooks’ employee and Recovery Café volunteer Jessica Lyons for leading this effort including having Brooks donate shoes, shirts and shorts to properly equip Members in pursuing better physical health!
We are thankful to the race organizers Snohomish Running Company and Brooks Running for partnering with us to raise awareness about addiction and mental illness in our community, and promoting physical wellness at the Café!
