We are ecstatic to welcome and introduce our new Resource Development Officer, Ashley Sheriff! Prior to joining our team, Ashley served as the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator for East African Community Services in South Seattle. One of our favorite parts of the interview process with Ashley was when she shared about one of her mentors, a librarian (one of Ashley’s two Masters Degrees is in Library and Information Science) who was a part of the revolution to end Apartheid in South Africa. As she explained it, “Who would suspect librarians?”
Ashley has been published, studied Swahili at Yale, tutored Kiswahili language students, mentored graduate students and adopted a pregnant cat. She is kind, gracious and has a spirit for social justice that is a perfect match for this healing community. We have been truly fortunate that the best people with the skills and heart that we need have joined our staff when we needed them. Ashley is a shining example. She is originally from Chicago, and she and her husband have been here in the Pacific Northwest for about two years. She supports our Volunteer Program and Resource Development efforts. The next time you are at the Café, please say hello to Ashley and help us welcome her!
